What is Amelia up to?

I haven't written much about Amelia's developmental milestones...

- This girl is strong! Since she was just a couple weeks old, nurses and her pediatrician have all commented about her neck/head strength. She also works her arms and legs all the time. Unfortunately, we get head-butted on a daily basis.

- She smiles! :) This has been something that Chris was really working on with her this week. It's really hard to get a picture of it, because her expression changes constantly and we have a slow camera. But this is the best picture we've gotten thus far:

- She's very vocal. She loves "talking" with us, and "chats" away when playing with toys on her play mat.

- She sleeps very well. Of course it's not consistent by any means, but we frequently get 5-6 hour stretches at night and 2-3 hour naps during the day.

- She likes baths! Now we're just working on getting her to not look like this when we put her in her baby pool...

I can't think of anything else... but I'm sure there's something! This kid changes every day!

Week 7

Week 7 began with mommy's last day home with Amelia. We cuddled and played, and I held her extra closely.
Then for the rest of the week, Gramma D hung out with Amelia during the day, while I worked. It was good to have her just downstairs, and I missed playing with her. She's SO much more cranky at night, so I was missing the best parts of her day.

On Saturday, Mommy and Amelia went to cheer on Daddy as he competed in an "Amazing Race"-like event ([they won!]. On Sunday, Amelia was baptized! But I'll save that for another post....

First week back...

My first day back at work was this past Tuesday. It was the worst day ever to come back - a regional meeting down in Columbus and I was gone for about 9 hours. It was a very difficult day for me, having never been away from her nearly that long before. I really cannot complain too much, because unless I only have day-long meetings at most monthly. Otherwise, I am at my home office a lot, only leaving to go for appointments with my consumers - being away for a couple hours at most.

Gramma D came down for several days, to smooth the transition for Chris and me. He's teaching his last week of the semester, and then will be in full daddy mode starting next week. We'll have Amelia here at home for the next 2 months, and starting part-time day care in September with a nice lady here in Delaware (around my work schedule and Chris's teaching).

It's been a hard week, because I have to watch someone else hold her and play with her, but it's good to know that she's okay.

This coming Sunday, Amelia is getting baptized at our church in Columbus. We're having a little party after, to celebrate the big occasion.

Week 6

For the rest of week 6.... Amelia and I tried to take full advantage of my last week off work. We did a lot of relaxing and hanging out at the house. On Thursday, we had lunch with "grandma" Melissa and Gabby and then did a little shopping for her baptism ensemble (she will be wearing my gown). Over the weekend, more just hanging out, but daddy was free of work responsibilities, so we got to spend a lot of time together. Saturday night, we had some friends over for dinner (Josh and Erin) and Amelia was very well behaved - not being too cranky and letting everyone enjoy her.

For Chris's first Father's Day, Amelia, the kitties and I got him some cards and some pictures for his office. Also he got permission to go buy the electric edger he'd been wanting :) We went to church and out to lunch, but mostly just spent time at the house.

Mommy's Birthday!

So my birthday was yesterday (as well as Amelia's 5-week birthday!). Chris and Amelia spoiled me so much! Chris made me breakfast in bed, and later we tried a local sandwich shop that we'd not been to before. Later we had dinner down in Columbus, and went to Chris's Italian language immersion group. I got great gifts for a new mom: a netflix subscription (perfect for a movie buff that can't get out much!) , a gift certificate to get fitted for a new pair of athletic shoes, and a baby that was not very fussy and took great naps! :)

Funniest picture ever! Chris had just rubbed a bit of lemon on Amelia's lips and she LOVED it!

Week 5

For the rest of week 5....

On Thursday, Amelia had a girls day out on her 1 month birthday. Amelia and mommy went shopping together and then we met mommy's friend Erin for lunch. Then, there was a employee-appreciation event at daddy's college, so the three of us went there for some fun.

On Friday, Amelia met Mommy and Daddy's friend Mark. He came by the hospital to see her when she was born, but she was stuck in the nursery warming up. In the evening, the three of us went for ice cream and a short walk downtown.

On Saturday morning, mommy took Amelia out so daddy could get some work done. We went to the Worthington farmer's market, and then to the Polaris Mall to walk around together.

On Sunday, we all went over to see my family for cousin Victoria's Christening.

1 month old today!!

Amelia is one month old today! She's growing so quickly. We went to the pediatrician yesterday, and had her big checkup. After being in the 3rd percentile for weight at 3 days old, we were eager to get the stats for 1 month. Her weight was 8 lbs, 5.5 oz! 30th percentile! She is 21.5 inches long, in the 67th percentile for height.

The pediatrician (her normal one - different than who she saw last week) seemed a bit more concerned about her eating/fussing issues. She thinks that Amelia has a mild case of reflux, and prescribed a small dose of Prevacid. So we're hoping that feedings become a little more easier, and that she not seem so distressed.

Week 4

Amelia had a big week 4! She went on her first road trip. Chris had a conference that he wanted to attend in Indianapolis, and we decided to make it a family adventure.

She did really well on the trip, despite being thrown off of her "routine". She got to spend the mornings with mommy and then we'd meet up with daddy in the afternoons. She also went on her first trip to Bloomington, where daddy went to school.

On the way back from Indianapolis, we stopped in Dayton to meet Amelia's new cousin, Victoria, who was born the day before (30th). Victoria is so cute! :)

On Sunday, "aunt" Michelle hosted a brunch, so folks could come meet Amelia. She got to see mommy and daddy's friends Scott, Chad, Courtney and Rachel. Then on Monday, Karen came up to see her.
