21 weeks old!

Last week, she had a couple of adventures.

On Tuesday, I hosted book club at our house, so she had 6 ladies all looking adoringly at her and wanting to hold her, which is what she loves. She loves attention. She did not want to go bed!

On Thursday, we all went over to one of the dining halls, so Chris could check it out for some future projects. All the students were staring at her, so again, she was happy.

On Saturday, we went for our usual walk downtown to the farmer's market. Then, we came back and she took a tiny nap. We went back out, to the rugby match and then the football game. I believe they won the rugby match, but definitely lost the football game. I forgot to take pics in her gear (I will next week!), so here's her in her UK outfit later in the day:

On Sunday, Amelia went with us to church and then she and I went out for some fun in the afternoon at my friend, Courtney's house. As usual, she was the center of attention and she loved it :)

More Amelia Thoughts

Wow, this girl has a personality!!

Amelia is a chatty girl now. I seriously believe that she thinks that she's talking in real words. She will make all sorts of chatty, babbling noises, all the while looking at me like we're having a conversation. :)

In the mornings, often I will hear her chatting with herself in the crib before she cries to get up.

Chris and I are both introverts. Very much so. Amelia, however, is an extrovert. She can be fussy all morning at the house, but as soon as we get into a crowd of people, she's all smiley, happy and outgoing. She will start chatting and smiling at people, coyly rubbing her face in our shoulder, and then looking back at them cutely. She knows how to charm a person.

Amelia loves attention and gets annoyed when she loses it. She also hates to be talked about in a negative light (you think I am joking, but it is true!).

Amelia loves a church with a good band. She enjoys the beginning praise music and then after the pastor begins, she starts to get fussy and ends up taking a nap. She is doing a great job at helping us with our church search. :)

Lately, she is having sleeping issues AGAIN. She wakes frequently at night, but thankfully eats and goes back to sleep. But what is worse is that she is not napping. She will be SO exhausted and I will jump through hoops to get her to go down, and 30 minutes later, she's up and ready to go. 30 minutes does not cut it. Eventually, she gets cranky and becomes very difficult to please. Pray for us during this time -- it should pass soon! We need her to sleep more and be a bit more content with boring ole Mom and Dad. :)

Time on her play mat has gotten so much more interesting for her. She rolls back and forth, hitting and kicking the things hanging down. But then she rolls over and cries until we rescue her. We really need to work on that! But I guess once she is okay on her tummy for longer periods of time, crawling comes soon after, so maybe we should leave it alone for a bit!

Week 20!

Not much exciting stuff for Amelia last week. But over the weekend, she went on her second trip to Cincinnati. We stopped at the outlets to get a few things, including some cute Carters outfits for Amelia (I'm addicted to Carters!!). Then, we went to IKEA (yay!), where Amelia got a toy holder for our living room, so we can hide away her things a bit better.

And then Amelia went to her second major-league baseball game! We had Red's tickets from my company (only like 8 rows back, by 3rd base). She wore her Angel's outfit, but we tried to make it look like a Red's outfit by turning the bib around :)

Luckily, despite being toted all over, she got a few naps in.

She even slept the whole way home, which was good, because it was her normal bedtime. So when we got home, Chris got her all dressed in her pj's and then I fed her, and she went right back to sleep!

20 Weeks Old!

20 weeks... that's 1/2 a pregnancy... that's a long time!! And we really can't remember our lives before she came :)

Amelia's milestones

So what all can Amelia do now?
-- She smiles a lot and laughs.
-- She rolls constantly from her back to front. She has not mastered the other direction, so she usually just screams to be rescued.
-- If you hold a toy out in front of her, she will reach for it.
-- She likes to stick things in her mouth, especially her hands.
-- She likes if you make funny noises with your mouth or sing to her.
-- She hates to be on her belly, but will lift up and attempt to scoot (the pre-crawl action).
-- She recognizes the kitties and will reach out to pet them (or just grab really).
-- She recognizes her bedtime routine, and goes to sleep well now!
-- She still wakes usually 2 times during the night. But she's going back to sleep pretty well.

Little girl is growing up! Some changes...

-- She used to scream almost every car trip. Now she can handle even longer trips with only minimal fussing. Yesterday, she even slept the whole way back from Cincinnati!
-- She used to sleep in just a light onesie, swaddled in the "miracle blanket".

Now, she sleeps in a sleep sack. She is not a fan of regular pajamas. No more swaddle!

-- She slept her first 2 months in her bouncy seat (in her crib), then 2 months in her car seat (in her crib) and now she's just in her crib!! Her reflux must have subsided just enough for her to be okay flat on her back. She scoots all over that thing and is never where we left her.

Week 19

Amelia's 19-week birthday picture!

Scoot-A-Que!

Last weekend was Amelia's first BIG scooter event! The 11th Annual Scoot-A-Que! It's the time when all the local scooter clubs put aside their differences and all scoot together. There's festivities all weekend, but Amelia and I just joined Chris for the non-scooting parts of the day on Saturday.

While Chris was off scooting around town, Amelia and I spent the afternoon with Melissa and Gabby.

Amelia's 4 month pictures!

Taken at JcPenney.... look a few posts back to see how eventful this was!

Someone pointed out that in the second picture, the spit on her shoulder is in the shape of a musical note. The Roberts's would claim that as a sign that she will follow the family tradition of being musical. :)

4 Months Old!!

Amelia was 4 months old on September 5th!

On Monday, we took her to the Pediatrician for her 4-month checkup. She got her shots (yuck) and a thorough look-over from Dr. K. Amelia is 13 pounds (32nd percentile) and 25 inches long (78th percentile!).
We also got the go-ahead from Dr. K to start Amelia on her first solid foods! This is our first attempt at rice cereal. I think I made it a bit too thin, and it got really messy.....
Despite her rough day at the Pediatrician, Amelia had a couple of happy moments on her 18-week birthday!

Week 18

Amelia had a big week last week!

Monday - Pictures and day out with Mommy
Thursday - Rolled over for the first time! And she has not stopped since. She loves rolling! Now if only we could get her to consistently roll back over from front to back, instead of cry for someone to save her. She also had her first night-time babysitter, when we went to an event at the university. It went well!
Friday - She had her second night-time babysitter (a different girl), when we went down to Columbus for Lion King (musical). It went well again!
Saturday - Spent the day with Grandma Cathy, Grandpa Larry, Uncle Jeff, Aunt Laura, 6 cousins, and met Uncle Ron for the first time (Grandma Cathy's brother)!

Are you SURE you're not a redhead??

For the record... Amelia has some killer red highlights (hair looks auburn in the sun) and reddish eyebrows. My mom has said "100%, she will be a redhead". Whatever.... we'll see. I'm not convinced.

But anyhow... she definitely has some of the traits!

1. She has a temper. When she gets mad, it's really funny. Her face gets all red and she makes this "eeeeee" noise, like she's really getting worked up. Different things set her off, and it's pretty rare, but definitely something we've noticed about her. It's definitely different than normal fussiness.

2. She is stubborn. For the longest time, she has had the strength needed to roll over. But it seems that she didn't want it to be any sort of random thing, like with most babies. She would roll herself back and forth, stopping *just* short of an actual roll-over. Legs would be over, face would be face down, body would be over, but there'd be 1 arm in the way. She'd use that arm to push herself back over, like... "I'm not ready yet".

SHE JUST ROLLED OVER!!

Finally, she went completely over - back to front. And just to show off, she kept going, to go front to back. Unfortunately, that landed her on our hardwood floors. She started to get upset, but I came over, cheering her accomplishment and she got all excited, too. Now she keeps rolling around, like it was no big deal.

She wanted to do it on her own terms.

Picture Day!

We'll be using Erica P. (who did Amelia's newborn pictures) again for big birthdays, but I was dying for something semi-professional, to hold us over. We made an appointment to take Amelia to JcPenney this morning for a 4-month photo shoot.

This morning, she was fussy. But, we decided to just go for it, because she was so sleepy, she'd probably nap on the way down and perhaps, just maybe, we'd get a good picture. She napped on the way down. Woke up at the store, just as Chris got there (had to work today) and was smiley happy. She was happy all the way up to our scheduled appointment time. Unfortunately, they were running late. By the time they were ready for us, she was fussy again. The photographer was great though, she was so patient with her. After maybe 5 shots, Amelia completely melted down. I was without hope that anything came out good. She was screaming... parents and children were looking horrified. It was BAD.

After 10 minutes or so, the pictures pop up on the order screen - and wow! - she looks cute! We actually had a hard time picking between two. [I'll have to share once we pick them up]

But the funny part of the story was that as we were clicking back and forth between shots on the computer, she stopped fussing and started laughing at herself on the screen. She just kept laughing and laughing.... it was hysterical. Our little Jekyll-Hyde baby -- she can be so worked up, but will almost always stop crying when presented with her own face. But laughing at herself... that was amazing. And adorable.

Jinxed it

She's up a 12:30am, playing, looking chipper.

We're not going to be publishing any more sleep accomplishments, because as soon as we voice them, they go away.
