So... on Sunday morning, she did wake up in a much better condition than the night before, her fever was gone AND she ate very well two feedings in a row. We called the pediatrician's on-call line, and were told as long as she's eating and sleeping well, and appropriately going through diapers, to not worry about it until our Monday appointment. She said that ear infections go away on their own about 75% of the time.
She did great on Sunday, but was alternating back and forth between fussy and happy. It was hard to have her so upset all weekend, because those days are so precious to us - all of us home together. She took her nursing/bottles well, but was still avoiding most solid foods.
On Monday morning, she woke up fussy again, but still without a fever. I called the pediatrician's office and moved up our appointment from later in the day. Actually, I later found out that I had to totally re-schedule Amelia's 9-month checkup for next week.
When Dr. K checked her out, she found no evidence of an ear infection, and said that Amelia has Roserea. Basically, it's an infection that kids get right about this age. It presents initially as a fever, and then after the fever breaks, a red rash appears on the body. I had noticed a slightly red blotchy look to Amelia's skin earlier. Apparently, she is no longer contagious and this should all go away in a few more days.
And a weight/height update: 17 pounds, 7.5 ounces and 27.5 inches long! YAY!
