Italy - Days 15 & 16

Thursday 6/3

On this day, we got all packed up for a two-night trip to Rome.

Enjoying her breakfast:

But first we walked around the local Altopascio market day. Amelia got a new hair clip, which she demolished about 30 minutes after this picture was taken:

The yummy fruits and vegetables for sale:

The clothing booths -- my dad is buying a new polo shirt:

There were several blocks worth of shopping!

We stopped on the way down to Rome at my favorite little Tuscan hill town - Montepulciano:

Dad and I went on a self-guided tour through a wine cellar:

I love the main piazza! This is the Palazzo Comunale (town hall):

And the Cathedral:

And some other building in the piazza:

A view from above -- we're on the outdoor terrace on the second floor of the town hall:

It started to rain while we were coming down the big hill, so Amelia got a nice dry ride:

We got a quick lunch and popped into some shops, but otherwise it was a pretty quick, and wet, stop.

We got to Rome and settled into our hotel just before dinner time. We cleaned up a bit and popped into a pasta joint.

Enjoying the street water fountain:

She was pretty crazy by the point in the evening...

Friday 6/4

On this day, we took the Metro into Rome. Amelia's getting a chariot ride up the stairs of the station:

We took a bus tour around Rome:

A giant, ornate building - "Il Vittoriano":

Happy family in Rome:

Our first view of the ancient ruins:

Happy to be out of her stroller and running around:

Amelia was all covered up with sunblock, which I forgot to bring with us and put on myself. The sun was beating down on me and I was turning pink, so I succumbed to the tourist souvenir of these pretty painted umbrellas (cheap quality, cheap price). I tried to stay out of Amelia's view, because I knew she'd want it, but that didn't work long....

Walking through the Roman Forum:

Amelia's had an ancient church in the Forum!

A roadside diaper change (there were not too many other options for this...):

Palatine Hill -- where all the rich dudes of Ancient Rome had their homes:

We couldn't keep Amelia from stopping constantly to pick up rocks:

There she is - right behind all the other tourists reading about the area:

Silly girl:

Next, we walked over to the Vatican and checked out St. Peter's Square:

As soon as we left there, Amelia fell asleep in her stroller:

Check it out above -- she fell asleep while holding a pastry (in her right hand) and when she woke back up, she resumed her snack.

Trevi Fountain:

Legend says if you throw a coin over your shoulder, you will return:

The Spanish Steps:

And we finished out the day with a nice dinner:

Oh and you can't miss the gelato!

The Pantheon -- half under construction:

It was a nice, but LONG day of sight-seeing in Rome!
